Criminal charges are filed against a 61-year-old woman accused of stabbing a dog on Monday afternoon on Chicago's Northwest Side.

Jeanette Olivo, who has a violent criminal history, has been identified as the woman who allegedly approached a 15-year-old girl walking her family's Chihuahua on the 6600 block of West Irving Park Road.

Police said the woman spoke briefly with the girl and, "without warning or provocation stabbed the dog." The girl tried to get the dog, Bebe, away. Police said Olivo followed and stabbed the 13-year-old dog again. A man who was there got the dog away and police quickly arrested Olivo.

Olivo is charged with aggravated cruelty to an animal and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. She has a January 4 court date in Skokie.

Bebe has had one surgery, with more possible. The Garrido Stray Rescue Foundation has been raising money to help with vet bills, with more than $9,000 raised so far.
