CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Beginning Saturday, more than 700 migrants housed in Chicago Park District buildings are expected to be moved to temporary shelters elsewhere.

Exactly who will be moved to other temporary migrant shelters across the city and how long they might have at their current shelters remains unclear.

Mayor Brandon Johnson earlier this week said that the migrants would be relocated to other shelters over the next several weeks. About 200 migrants were at the Broadway Armory in the 48th Ward heading in to the weekend, according to CBS 2.

The migrants were told they need to leave by the end of the week. The shelter occupants fearing disruption include families and children attending nearby schools.

This decompressing or clearing of park district buildings housing migrants is being done to prepare for scheduled summer programming. Alderwoman Leni Manaa-Hoppenworth told CBS 2 that the move is a good thing for her constituents.

"It has so many different options including dance, including gymnastics, including sports, including the arts."

Current city data shows more than 100 people staying in the field house in Brands Park, just under 200 at Broadway Armory Park, more than 250 at Gage Park, 32 at Leone Park, and about 140 at Piotrowski Park.
