CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A building fire Friday morning has shut down a popular independent music venue in Lincoln Park.
Considered one of the most artist-friendly venues in Chicago, the Golden Dagger on North Halsted in Lincoln Park has also been an inviting neighborhood workspace with a coffee bar and free wi-fi along with patio seating.
Owner Donnie Biggins had just unveiled a major rebrand in April of this year of what had been the Tonic Room.
Biggins posted on Golden Dagger's social media pages that while no employees or patrons were harmed in the fire, there was a large amount of interior damage and his employees will be out of work for some time.
He has set up a GoFundMe page for help in recovery. More than $15,000 has been raised so far.
