The nonprofit called Austin Coming Together announced this week that it purchased the J.J. Walser House at 42 North Central Avenue.
BLOCK CLUB reports the house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and built in 1903 became a city landmark in 1984, but has sat in deteriorating condition since the house's owner died in 2019.
Last year, the Walser House was named to both Chicago’s “most endangered properties” list by Preservation Chicago and Illinois’ Most Endangered Historic Places list by Landmark Illinois.
Austin Coming Together now plans to fundraise so it can restore the J.J. Walser House, which the nonprofit says will cost $2.7M to $3.5M.
