“Abolish ICE,” “Caleb Chilliams” and “Mueve La Nieve” are among the finalists for Chicago’s fourth annual “You Name a Snowplow” contest.
The city’s Department of Streets and Sanitation released the list of 25 finalists Sunday. They were pulled from more than 13,300 entries. Chicagoans can vote for up to six names, one for each of the city’s snow districts. The winning names will be displayed on a plow in each district.

“Chicagoans have once again displayed their unmatched creativity and civic pride in submitting names for this year’s contest,” Department of Streets and Sanitation Commissioner Cole Stallard said in a statement. “We are grateful to the community for engaging with us, and we encourage all residents to submit votes for the top six names.”
“Abolish ICE,” referring to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, was submitted an overwhelming number of times, according to a list of all submissions provided to the Sun-Times.
That name alone was entered roughly 9,300 times, or about 70% of entries, while other variations, like, “ICE out of Chicago” were also nominated.
Names related to ICE, which has become a catchall term for federal immigration agencies, gained much attention during the submission process for the naming contest.
The Trump administration has come under intense scrutiny for its aggressive deportation campaign, which heavily targeted Chicago last fall.
Mayor Brandon Johnson, who last week called for abolishing ICE after federal immigration agents fatally shot VA nurse Alex Pretti in Minneapolis, suggested on social media the “ABOLISH ICE” snowplow name on X.
MS NOW host Rachel Maddow also mentioned the snowplow contest on a recent show.
