(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The number of legal abortions are down nationwide since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, but that’s not the case in Illinois.
A new report from the Society of Family Planning shows that the number of abortions across the country fell by more than 10,000 -- or about 6% -- in the two months since federal abortion protections ended.
The study is the first attempt at a nationwide count of abortions since the Dobbs decision.
In states where abortion remained legal, the number of procedures increased.
Illinois saw the biggest increase. The state reported roughly 2,710 more abortions in July and August, compared to April and May.
Planned Parenthood of Illinois had readied itself for the surge by expanding hours and clinic space, hiring more doctors and creating a hotline to help patients with travel logistics.
