Accused Highland Park parade shooter moved to maximum security unit of Lake County Jail

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The Lake County Sheriff's Office has tightened security around the man accused of killing seven people during Highland Park's 2022 Fourth of July Parade after they said he threatened an officer in the jail.

When Robert Crimo III appeared in court last week, he was wearing a different colored prison uniform. That's because he was moved to the maximum security part of the jail following what the sheriff's office said was a random search of his cell on Nov. 6.

Deputy Chief Chris Covelli said the 23-year-old became upset during the shakedown and verbally threatened a correctional officer.

If there are no more rule violations, the accused shooter will be moved back to his prior cellblock on Jan. 4, 2024.

He's due in court on Jan. 10, 2024, for a hearing in his trial on murder charges from the Highland Park parade shooting, in which he's decided to represent himself.
