(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A 42-year-old Chicago man will be detained in DuPage County as he awaits trial on charges he tried to steal $1,700 worth of flooring supplies from a Home Depot store.

Authorities allege Timothy Wehmeyer on Tuesday entered the warehouse store in Oakbrook Terrace, selected 25 cases of flooring and showed employees a fraudulent receipt as he tried to exit. When confronted, Wehmeyer fled, leaving the merchandise behind, officials said, and handed responding police a false driver’s license.

On Wednesday, Wehmeyer was in court, charged with burglary, retail theft and one count of obstructing identification.

A judge granted prosecutors’ request to hold the defendant before trial because of pending cases against him, the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office said.

Wehmeyer has an active warrant out of Crown Point, Indiana for larceny, a retail theft case out of Cook County and has failed to appear in court at least 12 times throughout his criminal history, officials said.

He’s next due in court Nov. 21.
