CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Cargo workers who work for Swissport at O’Hare Airport and elsewhere walked off the job today alleging unsafe and inhumane working conditions.

"Swissport Cargo must be held accountable and if it won't be done by government, then it'll be done by the workers themselves in the sea of workers that you see here today," said SEIU Local 1 President Genie Kastrup.

"There is power in numbers."

Cargo worker Chris Enterlein was among the workers speaking at a rally at O’Hare. He said he faced retaliation for trying to organize his co-workers.

"We work for tyrants. We work for people who want to control every waking
hour of our lives. They have no lives outside of work and they want the same for us."

Swissport previously said, in a statement, The health and safety of all our employees is the highest priority.

And added, We fully support our employee’s right to choose Union representation.
