(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – The Harrah’s Joliet Hotel & Casino was evacuated Friday after housekeeping staff discovered what they thought was explosives in a hotel room.
Joliet police were notified around noon about the discovery, and members of the Cook County Sheriff Office’s bomb squad determined the item was “commercial-grade fireworks,” authorities said.
“Additional commercial-grade fireworks were also located in a vehicle in the casino parking garage, believed to be related to the hotel room,” Joliet police said in a statement posted to social media.
The bomb squad members removed the potentially dangerous items and the casino and hotel property was reopened to the public, police said.
An investigation continues.
