(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The sponsor of a proposed ordinance to tighten regulations on so-called dollar stores in Chicago held off on a final vote Wednesday.
Earlier this week, the City Council’s Licensing Committee approved a measure giving the city more ability to regulate Dollar Tree, Dollar General and Family Dollar stores.
Sponsoring Ald. Matt O’Shea said there have been complaints of trash strewn around the stores, understaffing and unresponsive management.
But when it came time for a full vote, he used a legislative procedure to putt off a vote until the next meeting. He said he’s just being cautious.
The dollar stores’ parent company had been talking with other aldermen and making promises ahead of the vote.
