(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The closing of an Aldi grocery store in the West Pullman neighborhood has angered an alderman who says the company broke a promise.

The store at 115th and Halsted Streets abruptly closed on Sunday. Ald. Ronnie Mosely (21st) is not happy.

“Shock, disgust, disappointment. They just don't get it,” he said. “This Aldi's walked back a promise.”

Mosely told CBS News Chicago, store management told him a year ago they were there to stay.

They were going to remodel and possibly expand. Now, it’s another empty store.

“Aldi's was one of those places that, again, provided affordable, fresh groceries,” said Mosley. “Now it's not here.”

This is the second Aldi store to close in Chicago in recent weeks. Another store on Clybourn Avenue in Lincoln Park in October.

The company called the closures “unique situations and not indicative of any larger trends.”

It says it’s expanding. Opening new stores.
