UPDATE: All lanes open on I-57 after crash causes hourslong shutdown

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A major crash led first responders to close all inbound lanes on Interstate 57 for hours on Chicago’s Far South Side Monday.

All lanes were reopened shortly before 8 p.m.

Officials made their first closures at about 4:45 p.m., according to a statement from the Illinois Department of Transportation, which said a crash prompted officials to close two lanes of inbound traffic. By 5:30 p.m., though, photos from the scene showed that all lanes were closed at 127th Street.

The crash happened on the northbound 119th Street exit ramp, according to CBS 2 Chicago’s Kris Habermehl.

No information has been shared regarding the crash or any injuries. Illinois State Police were investigating the scene.

As of 6:30 p.m., northbound lanes were still closed on I-57. Traffic was backed up to 147th Street. Halsted Street was recommended as a good alternative for those on the road.

Gaper’s delays were reported on southbound I-57 near the site of the crash.
