CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A craft show has returned to the Chicago Botanic Garden for the first time since the pandemic.

Co-Chair Leslie Sevcik said the artwork in the American Craft Exposition comes from the world of jewelry, wearable fibers, furniture, paper, metal and more.

“There’s all kind of interesting medium(s), and these are the top flying craft artists in the country, from all over,” Sevcik said.

The juried event features 100 artists from across the country - including about a dozen locals - and is also a fundraiser for a medical project at NorthShore University HealthSystem.

Like last year, it’s benefiting a project called SAVE MOMS that aims to reduce maternal deaths.

“What this program does is help prevent and identify severe complications that can cause deaths in mothers before it turns into that,” Sevcik said. “It’s the maternal health in the first 48 hours after giving birth, and who isn’t in favor in saving a mom?”

Sevcik said many of those selling their pieces are experimenting with new mediums and visitors can hear the stories behind them when meeting the creators.

Timed tickets are on sale for the show that runs from 10am to 6pm today through Sunday.

This is the sixth time ACE has been at the Botanic Garden. Last year it was held virtually.
