HUNTLEY (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Memorial Day is the unofficial kick off to summer, but last weekend's Memorial Day Parade in far northwest suburban Huntley was more of a goodbye.
Mike Stojak is the incoming commander of Huntley American Legion Post 673 and told WBBM they won't have any more Memorial Day Parades because they became too much of a party, and not the solemn day of remembrance it's intended to be.
“This was not an easy decision, but, I got to tell you, my membership that shows up, they voted unanimously to stop the parade,” Stojak said. “They get it. Being veterans, we get it. We know what the day is all about.
Stojak said he and other veterans hope that just as many people show up next year for their Memorial Day ceremonies even though there will not be a parade.
