Metra BNSF trains were facing extensive delays during the Tuesday morning rush after a train hit a deer in the western suburbs.
The train that struck the deer was stopped near the Route 59 station and halted trains in both directions, Metra spokeswoman Meg Reile said.
In a statement, Metra said trains began moving again by 7:08 a.m. But the incident had caused Metra to cancel at least one train and delay several others.
The delays are expected to ripple through the remainder of the morning, Reile said.
