Chicago Animal Care and Control officers were called to Rainbow Beach on Monday after a concerned resident reported a dog trapped beneath large rocks along the Lake Michigan shoreline near 75th Street.
When they arrived, they found a dog, wedged between and underneath boulders, about 30 feet from shore.
Despite being in a frightening situation, officers said the dog was friendly and happy to see rescuers who freed the animal.
They took it in for a medical evaluation and said it needed additional treatment but was in good health.
Animal Care and Control says the pup appears to be a golden retriever mix and is awaiting to be picked up.
