(WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A newly launched campaign aims to inspire Chicago area dog lovers to think big.
Over the course of the pandemic, animal shelters have been busy, and groups like The Anti-Cruelty Society have been taking notes.
“One thing that stuck out for us is a phenomenon that’s happening nationally,” said Vice President of Mission Impact Lydia Krupinski. “Large breed dogs, while there’s fewer of them coming into shelters, they’re staying longer.”
Krupinski said studies into that phenomenon are ongoing.
“We don’t have the answers as to why, but in the meantime, the Chicagoland Humane Coalition said, ‘hey, we should get together and put together some kind of campaign to help to really elevate the profile of these dogs so we can find them homes and get them adopted and into foster care,’” Krupinksi said.
The Chicago Dog Campaign will now take to the internet, local advertising and even formal adoption events, with the goal of getting larger dogs into Chicago homes.
“You get more dog to love,” Krupinski said. “You’ve got more snuggles on the couch, you’ve got more personality, more energy.”
