(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Dozens of pets are up for adoption Saturday -- for free.
Hoping to ease crowding at animal shelters, the Anti-Cruelty Society is teaming up with PetSmart Charities to help pets find homes during National Adoption Week.
“There's hundreds of animals available right now,” said Sarah Hayes, Director of Adoption Experience for the Anti-Cruelty Society.
“Adoptions are moving a little bit slower. During the pandemic, everyone got dogs and cats, so homes have dogs and cats. So now, we're trying to promote homes getting a second dog or cat.”
To help make adoption a little easier, the Anti Cruelty Society is waiving adoption fees.
“If you're adopting, you're opening more space in our shelter for us to help other animals in the community,” she said. “It's just a cycle of helping more and more pets.”
For those who want to help but can't adopt, Hayes said they're always looking for volunteers and foster parents.
