CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The Archdiocese of Chicago hosted its 19th annual Posada for Immigration Reform Friday.
It was a one-mile walk that started outside of the Federal Immigration Center downtown. The theme of this year's Posada for Immigration was "God with us, hope along the journey."
"We do this every year because of the struggles of immigrants trying to get comprehensive immigration reform to happen in Congress," said John Hoffman, a retired priest with the Archdiocese.
Senior Coordinator for Immigration at the Archdiocese of Chicago Elena Segura said the procession reminds the families they are not alone.
“The church is committed to be with the people and with this cause until some day we sing victory of immigration reform,” Seguera said.
Showing her support, Carmel Catholic High School senior AJ Villanueva, 17, joined in prayer with marchers.
“Family and community is a really important value to me and being able to promote that and show the world that this is a necessary thing, and it goes beyond the political and everything surrounding, is just really important to me,” Villanueva said.
Marchers reenacted the story of Mary and Joseph seeking shelter on their way to Bethlehem making several stops downtown.
