CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Those behind the free Open House Chicago festival have shared new details about what to expect at the 2024 festival.

The popular architectural showcase returns for its 14th year on Oct. 19 – 20, and organizers said it will cover plenty of ground.

“If there’s ever a day to be proud to be a Chicagoan or celebrate Chicago architecture, Open House Chicago weekend is definitely it,” said Angela Esposito, the Chicago Architecture Center’s vice president of learning.

This year’s Open House Chicago will provide a behind-the-scenes peek into 170 architectural, historical and business-related sites across over 20 different neighborhoods. Of those sites, Esposito said 25 are new additions.

“The Ramova Theatre in Bridgeport, also the historic Chess Studio Willie Dixon’s Blues Heaven Foundation,” she said. “We’re really excited to add them to our roster.”

If possible, Esposito recommended venturing out a bit.

“Over 70% of OHC visitors say they have had the opportunity to explore a neighborhood that they’ve never frequented,” she told WBBM. “I think this is a really good way to build that civic pride.”
