CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Another week of arctic temperatures and snow means plenty of work for car repair shops.
At Wheel Inn Body and Motorworks it’s peak battery replacement season.
The Wheeling shop is seeing a lot of customers needing jump starts or new batteries not only because of the frigid temperatures, but because we’re driving less due to COVID.
"If you don't start and run your car every week at least once, then yeah you will run into an issue. Definitely start it, run it, get it warm, take it around the block, get stuff moving," said Manager Larry Herforth.
On the flip side, he anticipates some people are putting off repairs, because they don’t need their cars as much while they’re working from home.
"If it was back to normal where everyone was driving...we'd probably have more of an uptick versus right now where people don't need their car, they are not driving, so they will wait until spring," Herforth said.
He said the snow has kept the company’s eight tow trucks busy as well, with drivers not always paying attention to road conditions.
