ARLINGTON HEIGHTS (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - It’s still not clear where the Bears will build a new stadium, but Arlington Heights leaders voted Monday night to move ahead with a traffic study that had stalled.

The village board approved a new agreement with a traffic consultant after the Bears front office resumed studying what redeveloping the old Arlington Park property would look like.

Mayor Tom Hayes said he’s happy the village is again reviewing if a new stadium and complex would be good for the suburb.

“This is just another step, but it’s a very important step that will allow us to get a little bit further down the road to our own exploration of this possibility,” said Hayes.

The board updated a contract it originally signed in 2022 to review the team’s traffic study that’s expected any day.

The cost will be paid for out of an escrow account from when the Bears bought the property.

CEO Kevin Warren said he’s focusing on a lakefront stadium but is open to the possibility of building in Arlington Heights.
