(WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The Chicago Bears say they'll announce plans for a lakefront stadium tomorrow and among those listening closely will be the mayor of Arlington Heights, where the team bought property last year.
Mayor Tom Hayes said the Bears did not inform him of their announcement but he says it's not a total surprise.
"We knew their focus has shifted to the lakefront and they've told us that , but they also said the focus has shifted for now and so we're kind of waiting in the wings," he added. "We wanna see what the plans are just like everybody else."
Part of what he wants to see is how viable the team's proposal is and who are the stakeholders who are expected to be at the press conference tomorrow, where the Bears are expected to give more details about their plan.
Specifically Hayes is curious if Friends of the Parks, the non-profit that has derailed other lakefront developments, will be on board. He said Arlington Heights is happy to be "Plan B" for the stadium.
"We're ready and willing to continue our discussions if the lakefront does not work out for the Bears."
