(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Arlington Heights says they're not "punting" on the prospect of the Bears building a stadium in the northwest suburb, despite the fact that the Bears recently unveiled plans for a stadium along Chicago's lakefront.

Arlington Heights Mayor Tom Hayes said it's "not over until it's over."

“Well, yeah, I do think we're still in play and I think even Kevin Warren has said that their focus right now is on the lakefront. But, you know, he certainly admitted that they’re the largest landowner in Arlington Heights,” Hayes said.

Mayor Hayes also says Arlington Heights sketched out ideas several years ago for possible use of the site of the former racetrack if the Bears don’t build a stadium.

Specifically, Mayor Hayes says the Village wants something "unique and exciting" on the site, and not auto repair shops or warehouses.
