CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - An aviation pioneer is flying into Chicago.
“We are so excited, for the very first time, I’m going to be in Chicago showing off this wonderful simulator of the Impossible Airplane,” pilot Jessica Cox told WBBM.
Cox said the Impossible Airplane can be flown using only one's feet. She will show off that airplane at the AeroStars Aviation Exploration camp at Olive-Harvey Community College on Chicago’s Far South Side on July 19.
“The first airplane of its kind [that] has ever been built to be flown with feet because I was born without arms,” Cox recalled.
Cox was recognized by Guinness in 2008 as the world's first licensed armless pilot..
“Convincing people that it was possible was the real challenge and then doing it was a very demanding process because I initially learned how to fly an unmodified plane. But, for the first time, this plane will be modified…and the first ever of its kind that will be modified for foot control, so we are putting the controls on the floor so I can fly it comfortably with my feet,” Cox said.
