(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A possible homicide suspect was arrested on Saturday after a shootout with Chicago police officers in south suburban Dolton, according to a Chicago Police Department spokesperson.
Officials said CPD officers were in Dolton as part of a follow-up investigation. Although the department didn't specify what the investigation was about, CBS 2 reported that the person taken into custody was connected to the murder of security guard Loyce Wright, who was shot to death inside of a Dollar Store in Austin on Friday.
Saturday's events happened at about 5:45 p.m., when police arrived at a residence on South Meadow Lane near East 152nd Street. CPD said officers saw a "wanted offender," after which they got into a shootout.
No details were shared regarding how the shootout began. The Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) is investigating the shooting.
No one was struck.
Officials said the suspect was arrested without further incident, and a firearm was recovered at the scene.
A CPD officer was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition for treatment of abrasions, according to the Chicago Fire Department.
At least one officer will be placed on routing administrative duties for 30 days, officials said, as COPA investigates the shooting.
