(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A new study shows that Chicago's arts and cultural community provides a lot of vocal support for racial equity in the field, but those words are rarely followed by actions.
The group Enrich Chicago is an alliance of museums, theater companies and art galleries that champion racial equity. Many have made public statements to that effect.
But researcher Dr. Anh Thang Dao-Shah says a survey of people who run such institutions or work for them found that few had actual plans to increase or promote diversity.
Enrich Chicago Director Nina Sanchez says their study also found that the people who run the institutions seemed to get less out of the cultural training they provided their staffs.
The study’s big recommendation is: Make and carry out plans.
Arts and equity is the focus of “At Issue,” which airs this weekend at 9:30 a.m. and 9:30 p.m.
