CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Illinois Math and Science Academy is expanding enrollment for the first time in 36 years.

The Aurora-based academy will now accept out-of-state applicants.

It's opening up a limited amount of new academy spots to these students...so they would not be taking the spot of an Illinois student.

IMSA President and CEO Evan Glazer said expanding enrollment to out-of-state students will create a quote "more robust population of cross-cultural students."

He also said this will strengthen diversity within the IMSA community.

Applications for the 2023-2024 school year are open now-tuition enrollment is just under $54,000.
