(WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A 14-year-old wrestler who was punched in the face by an opponent during a tournament in Oak Park is back on the mat.
Cooper Corder returned to the mat with a mask designed to protect his face as he heals. He doesn’t like it. It’s hard to see, he told the Dekalb County Chronicle.
He said after the incident he would be known as the kid who got punched and didn’t want that to overshadow his achievements. And, there have been many. He’s been wrestling for about ten years.
He spoke to CBS-2 last week.
“I would love to wrestle at a Division I level and accomplish other things I want to (do) in life, like Olympic gold medals and all of that,” Corder said last week.
He had just beaten an opponent and they were about to shake when he was punched.
The boy who threw the punch told police he was angry that he lost the match.
Corder is from Sandwich and wrestles with the SPAR Wrestling Academy in Aurora.
