CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Police are warning businesses, especially auto parts stores about a series of robberies on the city’s Northwest Side.

The most recent incident happened on West North Avenue near Lavergne in the Austin neighborhood on April 16 just before 8:00 p.m.

Police said the offender came to the counter at an auto parts store to inquire about a vehicle part and then he pulled out a semi-automatic handgun. Police think he was arriving and leaving in a silver sedan, maybe a Mercedes.

Witnesses describe him as in his 20's, about 6 feet tall, dark complexion, and wearing what have been described as “very clean Nikes” with tattoos under his right eye on his right hand.

Similar robberies have taken place in the 1400 block of North Kostner, the 2200 block on North Cicero, and in the 4000 block of West Hirsch in March and earlier this month.
