CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The city’s first casino is on the verge of opening its doors.

After several delays, Bally’s temporary casino at the Medinah Temple in River North could open to the public as soon as the weekend of Sept. 9.

The presumed opening period stems from schedules of other recent Illinois casinos that have opened.

The Chicago Sun-Times reported regulators will conduct an inspection of the space on Sept. 5 and then supervise practice gaming sessions on Sept. 6 and 7.

All of the casino’s gaming machines and tables at 600 N. Wabash have already been installed, the Chicago Tribune said earlier this month. Hundreds of jobs started being filled in May.

The temporary casino will be at Medinah Temple for up to three years until Bally’s new flagship casino and entertainment complex is built on the site of the Tribune printing plant in River West.
