(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A 24-year-old Rosemont man faces a felony charge after allegedly threatening the Villa Park police officers who responded to a disturbance at a bar on Christmas Eve.

Police arrived around 1:24 a.m. Saturday at Demito’s Saloon and encountered two men outside who “advanced toward the responding officers” and verbally assaulted them, the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office said in a news released posted Sunday.

One of the men, Ryan McGovern, allegedly told an officer, ”I have an automatic weapon and I’m going to shoot you.’’

As he was being arrested, McGovern continued to be belligerent, prosecutors say.

“I pay for you. I’m gonna sue the (expletive) out of you,” he allegedly told police.

McGovern has been charged with one count of threatening a public official, a Class 3 felony. A judge set his bond at $75,000 on Sunday, prosecutors said. His next court appearance is Jan. 23.

McGovern’s 21-year-old brother was charged with one count of misdemeanor resisting or obstructing a police officer, officials said.

Villa Park police said both men refused to leave the business.

"Regardless of the circumstances, threatening to shoot a police officer, as alleged against Ryan McGovern, is an extremely serious accusation and will not be tolerated in DuPage County,” State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said.
