Before you attempt to check into your next hotel, make sure everything checks out.

Better Business Bureau's "Tip-Off to the Rip-Off" on WBBM offers some tips for keeping your wallet safe while you travel this summer.

If you're planning to travel this year, be aware that scammers are setting up fake hotel booking websites that appear legitimate in search results.

Book through one of them, and you may discover that the reservation you paid for doesn't exist.

Plus, you could also be overcharged with unexpected fees, find that the reservation is non-refundable, and face dead ends when trying to cancel.

Always book through official hotel websites, look for secure "https" links, watch for red flags like poor grammar or unusual payment requests, and confirm your reservation directly with the hotel in advance.
