Lock out door to door scammers!
It’s that time of year again when temperatures cool off and door-to-door scams heat up, and Kayla Palmore with the Better Business Bureau’s Tip-Off to the Rip-Off® on WBBM shared tips for staying safe this week.
Before the cold weather freezes out unsolicited door-to-door knockers until next spring, there’s typically a mad dash to try to take advantage of unsuspecting residents.
Fraudsters may pose as utility workers, charity reps, or contractors to steal money, personal info – or worse, gain access to your home.
Some sure signs of trouble include pressuring you to act quickly, an unmarked work vehicle, low-quality paperwork or business cards, and refusal to allow you to verify credentials.
Never sign anything, hand over money, or give out personal information before you do your research.
