Jay Elliott with the Better Business Bureau says there are way to prevent your identity from getting tangled up in the dark web.
The BBB received 16,600 reports of identity and information theft between
2022 and 2024, and there’s one clear takeaway: financial losses are on the
rise.
Artificial Intelligence tools and the dark web are making identity theft easier, putting sensitive data, like Social Security numbers and bank accounts, at risk.
Scammers use stolen information to impersonate victims, commit fraud,
and sell data online.
So, never give information to strangers, be extremely cautious about
clicking links or calling numbers in emails and text messages, and check
your credit report at least twice a year.
