It’s always great to hear from an old classmate… unless it’s a scammer trying to take you to the school of hard knocks. Jordan Wright with the Better Business Bureau’s Tip-Off to the Rip-Off® on WBBM Newsradio has the details.
A growing scam starts with a simple message: “Did we go to school together?”
Scammers are increasingly posing as former classmates to gain trust, then steal money or personal information.
In some cases, the messages are detailed, mentioning your school, graduation year, even teachers or your hometown to sound legit.
Once you respond, they may ask for money, send shady links, or pitch fake investments.
Protect yourself: Verify the sender another way before replying, never send money, and don’t click unexpected links.
