If you feel like you’re receiving more text scam attempts, you would be right, and in a major way! Kayla Palmore with the Better Business Bureau’s Tip-Off to the Rip-Off® on WBBM Newsradio has the details.

A new BBB study shows Americans lost an estimated 68 billion dollars to scams over the past year alone.

Text scam attempts have tripled since 2024, phone scams have doubled, and email fraud is up 50% percent, highlighting a rapidly growing threat.

Fraudsters can send 100,000 scam texts for less than 100 dollars and switch phone numbers quickly, making them harder to block and easier to spread at scale.

Protect yourself by turning on scam filters, letting unknown callers go to voicemail, and avoiding unexpected texts that don't identify the sender before replying.
