As holiday lights come down, your inbox might be lighting up with scams.

Post-holiday season credit card statements are arriving, and that opens the door to phishing scams that seek to trick shoppers into believing they have points to redeem for free items and even cash rewards.

But be alert because these malicious links can steal money, personal information, and even install malware.

Look closely at the email address of the sender and avoid clicking on links or calling phone numbers in any suspicious email. Many of them will take you to official-looking, but fake, websites.

And never trust a points system that you have not heard of. Always check with the company directly to confirm that the offer is real.
