(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — If the goal from Arlington Heights village leaders was to speed up an agreement that would have the Bears build a new stadium, a move this week to publicize a compromise tax deal has not succeeded.
At Monday’s Arlington Heights Village Board meeting, Village Manager Randy Recklaus publicly shared a proposal that would have the team pay less than what the districts want or the board of review decided.
The Bears, though, said in a statement to WBBM that their “focus is on the city of Chicago project at this time.”
School Districts 15, 211 and 214 have also not directly commented on the suggestions tax deal, which would have the team pay $6.3 million in property taxes the first year and $3.6 million the second year.
Instead, the districts said the team has not accepted several of their proposals, and while they are committed to working to reach an agreement, they recognize that short-term tax arrangements will have long-term implications.
