(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The tributes poured in Thursday for Virginia McCaskey, as the Chicago Bears matriarch turned 100.

McCaskey – eldest child of George “Papa Bear” Halas Sr. – will close out her 40th season as primary owner. She was born in 1923, just three years after the founding of what is now the NFL.

She inherited the Bears mantle after the 1979 death of her younger brother, George "Mugs" Halas Jr., and the passing of George Sr. four years later, NFL.com noted.

She’s the longest-tenured owner in NFL.
