(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Next week, the Chicago Bears are expected to provide details about possible plans to build a new stadium and more in Arlington Heights.

Last year, the Bears signed a purchase agreement for the Arlington International Racecourse property, and have been exploring the idea of building a state-of-the-art stadium.

Next Thursday, the team will hold an informational community meeting at Hersey High School, in the northwest suburb.

Team officials say the stadium would be an anchor for a larger, mixed-used redevelopment, one of the largest projects in the history of the state.

The NFL franchise currently plays home games at Chicago’s Soldier Field, but that leased facility is considered increasingly obsolete. City officials have made suggested a broad-based set of improvements to that lakefront site, but the team does not appear interested.
