NAPERVILLE, Ill. (WBBM Newsradio) – One of the oldest businesses in the western suburbs is preparing to close its doors for good.

Beidelman Furniture, a family-owned store that has operated in downtown Naperville for 165 years, announced on social media that its final day of business will be April 29.

“We will miss YOU!!” the company wrote in a Facebook post. “Last day of Business will be April 29. Thank you for everything Naperville!!!”

No reason for the closure was immediately provided, and representatives for the store could not be reached for comment.

Beidelman Furniture traces its roots back to 1861, when cabinetmaker Frederick Long opened a furniture shop at the corner of Washington Street and Jackson Avenue. The business was later purchased by Long’s nephew, Oliver J. Beidelman, and remained in the family for generations.

The current three-story brick building that houses the store was constructed in 1928 and was designated a city landmark in 2024.

Community leaders say the store has long been a fixture in Naperville.

“For 165 years, Beidelman Furniture has been more than a storefront — it’s been part of the story of downtown Naperville and the lives of generations in our community,” the Downtown Naperville Alliance said in a social media post following the announcement.

The group added that the store’s legacy “lives on in the homes, moments and traditions they helped shape in Naperville and the western suburbs.”

The closure marks the end of a historic run for one of the region’s longest-standing family businesses.
