CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — With the state’s moratorium eviction over, a consumer watchdog warned residents to do their research on moving companies.
The Better Business Bureau said it receives roughly 13,000 complaints each year about moving companies and with evictions happening again — plus colder weather coming — the head of the Chicago chapter predicts demand will outstrip supply.
To avoid be scammed, the BBB suggested asking for proof of insurance, licensing and reviews before hiring a mover.
Companies moving people within the state must have a Household Goods License — and those storing require a different license. Both are from the Illinois Commerce Commission, which, like the BBB, encourages you to get any estimates in writing.
