A suburban bakery is getting ready to move out of the space where it has served customers since 1959.
Debbie Milks’ parents and grandparents opened Jarosch Bakery at the corner of Arlington Heights and Higgins Roads in Elk Grove and she remains a manager.
She tells WBBM it’s bittersweet to move out of the store she grew up in.
Customers have been coming in to buy their signature butter cookies and coffeecakes, including one called a Swedish flot.
One woman who worked at the store when she was in high school in the ‘70s says employees are like family.
The last day Jarosch will be open in that location is Saturday.
Then they hope to open in about three weeks in the new storefront a few hundred feet away in the plaza under redevelopment.
The owners of Ideal Bakery bought the family business last year and plan to do much of the baking in another location.
