DEKALB, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Residents of DeKalb are on the lookout for a black bear.
DeKalb Police notified residents on Facebook, saying a small black bear was spotted by a resident near the 600 block of West Dresser Road. They asked residents not to approach it if they see it, and to instead call 911.
It was spotted near a wooded area close to DeKalb High School, which is located at 501 W. Dresser Rd.
One resident responded to the post wondering if that’s why their dog stopped in its tracks while fetching a Frisbee and stared off into the woods.
It would not be the first time a bear was spotted in the area. In 2014, there was one verified by photos in Genoa and Sycamore.
People are advised to put away potential food sources that could attract the bear, like pet food, grills, and bird feeders.
