(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- As Chicago Park District leaders roll out plans to redesign Washington Park, a longtime horse riding club says it apparently is being edged out.
Broken Arrow Horseback Riding Club, a group of primarily Black riders and horse enthusiasts, has called Washington Park home since the late-1980s.
But that could soon change. Park District plans to renovate the park include no space or mention of the group, and the club’s president, who goes by the name Murdock, says they weren’t even given the chance to provide input.
“After 35 years, I’m still sitting here. When it comes to something with horses, you can’t say they don’t know about me and the organization. They can’t say that. Not after 35 years,” he tells WBBM Newsradio.
He’s pleading for someone to consider the club before park plans move further. A backup location is not on the table at this point, Murdock said.
