(WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Several Illinois politicians are sounding off on President Trump’s pardon of ex-Governor Rod Blagojevich.

Senator Dick Durbin says, “In a state with more than its fair share of public corruption, the Blagojevich chapter still looms as one of the worst. America and Serbia deserve better.”

That last part was a reference to rumors President Trump will make Blagojevich an ambassador.

Republican State Central Committee Member Aaron Del Mar from Palatine said it sets a bad example, noting only certain people are going to be held accountable, especially while a jury is weighing the fate of former House Speaker and Blagojevich nemesis Michael Madigan.

Fellow Democrats Comptroller Susana Mendoza called Blagojevich “unworthy” and Treasurer Michael Frerichs labeled him as “disgraced.”

Republican Congressman Darin LaHood, who was a federal prosecutor, called the pardon a “mistake” and told the Chicago Tribune Blagojevich has a clear and documented record of egregious corruption.

Meanwhile, Republican DuPage County Board member Jim Zay told the Daily Herald Blagojevich has served his time, and it’s time to move on.
