(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Police were able to solve a months-old burglary, thanks to a bottle of wine.

The crime took place back in September in the Rich Township.

The Cook County Sheriff's office says a home security camera captured a man kicking open a door to a detached garage.

Another camera showed him opening the refrigerator and drinking from a bottle of wine and then putting it back. The wine was a bottle of 19 Crimes Cali Red.

The suspect spotted the cameras partway through ransacking the home and painted over them, according to the sheriff’s office.

The bottle was analyzed by the Northeastern Illinois regional crime lab and there was a DNA match, according to the sheriff’s office.

Jeremiah Phillips, 35, was arrested this week. He's charged with residential burglary and criminal damage to property.
