KANKAKEE (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A 6-year-old boy drowned Tuesday in Kankakee despite efforts to save him.
The boy went into the swollen Kankakee River near the Beckham Park boat launch at about 3 p.m.
It was reported he was playing with a ball on a dock and either went in after it or fell into the river.
His mother and other adults tried to get to him.
The fire department said when they tried to reach him he went under and didn’t surface again.
Multiple fire departments responded with water rescue teams.
The boy’s body was found about two-and-a-half hours later near where he was last seen.
